NEW Health Center
Boston, MARoof Replacement and renovations of an occupied healthcare building
Our team completed a roof replacement project for NEW Health Center in Boston’s North End. The main challenges of the project included working within the tight confinements of the North End neighborhood, along with performing a complete roof replacement in an occupied, historic healthcare building.
The third floor was vacated by the client for our team to use as a staging ground and roof accessibility. We installed temporary shoring – to provide for structural integrity and stability during repair – throughout the whole building in advance of replacing the roof system including installing large steel brackets around existing roof trusses. We had to shore up the entire building starting in the basement through to the 3rd floor and attic areas considering the age and instability of the building. Our roof repairs instigated additional unforeseen structural repairs due to decay which were also addressed.
The new roof includes the membrane, new shingles, copper gutters and piping around the edges and a roof ridge area. Extensive repairs were made to all existing roof trusses throughout the attic space. Once this work was complete, we outfitted the 3rd floor with finish and fixture improvements to the dental and eye exam areas.
