OFFICE EXPANSION FOR A SOFTWARE COMPANY

SmartBear, a software development and visibility tools company, delivers quality applications to companies nationwide to aid productivity. With a recent surge in growth by several hundred employees, they decided to add another 16,000 square feet to their headquarters while giving an overall refresh to their space at Assembly Row in Somerville. Our team was brought on to manage the project while the building remained occupied throughout the duration of the 11-month schedule.

The expanded 52,000-square-foot office space offers employees a collaborative, flexible work environment to expand their ever-growing ideas. Although SmartBear embraces a hybrid work model for some of their employees, it was important for each individual to have their own desk as well as a place that works for their well-being. To achieve these goals the open office concept includes collaboration areas, conference rooms and new café spaces so employees can connect. A new fitness center with ADA-compliant showers and bathrooms allows employees to focus on their health while at work.

Our construction team creatively separated the phased work with a wall between the two spaces that were technically the two phases of construction. Once the first phase was turned over, the second phase was performed behind the temporary wall that was demoed towards the final completion date in December 2022.
